Partners of SOAR put together the first-ever San Marcos Education Fair held Saturday, October 11, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins. We had over 1500 people attend the event.
This annual event is designed to help parents become more involved in their children's education. The Education Fair provides information on early childhood development; elementary, middle, and high school; and college admission. For the children, there was a “reading garden” and a craft-making area. |

The First Generation Pre-College Dialogue Series was piloted in the spring 2007 and the overall goal was two-fold. The primary goal was to create a college-going community where families are engaged in a college discussion, and provide a relaxed and open environment to discuss their fears and hopes for the future. The Dialogue Series of three evening workshops which took place once monthly for three consecutive months. |
| This series targeted 8-12th graders enrolled in San Marcos ISD as well as their families. Special efforts were made to recruit students that would be the first in their family to graduate from college and those classified as having Limited English Proficiency; however the workshop was open to any student enrolled at SMCISD. |
